THE EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON AGRICULTURE SECTOR AND ECONOMIC GROWTH

Öz

Climate change, which is one of the most important global problems of recent years, is increasing its influence. Non-natural changes in the climate leading to various problems in the environmental, social and economic dimensions that affect sustainability considerably. The agricultural sector is at the forefront of the sectors most affected by climate change. Thus, change in temperature and precipitation caused by climate change affect the agriculture sector by affecting both the quantity of product and the quality of the product. In this way, climate change also influences economic growth in countries. The aim of this study is to analyze the impact of climate change on agriculture sector and economic growth for the 10 countries most affected by climate change according to the Global Climate Change Risk Index. Panel data analysis technique was used in the study for the period 1990-2016. The results obtained show that climate change has a negative effect on economic growth and agricultural value added in certain countries.

İKLİM DEĞİŞİKLİĞİNİN TARIM SEKTÖRÜ VE EKONOMİK BÜYÜME ÜZERİNDEKİ ETKİLERİ

Öz

İklim değişikliği son yılların en önemli global sorunlarından olup etkisini giderek arttırmaktadır. İklimde meydana gelen doğal olmayan değişimler çevresel, sosyal ve ekonomik boyutta çeşitli sorunlara yol açarak sürdürülebilirliği önemli ölçüde etkilemektedir. İklim değişikliğinden en fazla etkilenen sektörlerin başında tarım sektörü gelmektedir. Nitekim iklim değişikliğinin sebep olduğu değişen sıcaklık ve yağış miktarı gerek ürün miktarını gerekse ürün kalitesini etkileyerek tarım sektörü üzerinde olumsuz etkilerde bulunmaktadır. Bu yolla iklim değişikliği ülkelerde ekonomik büyüme üzerinde de etkili olmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, iklim değişikliğinin tarım sektörü ve ekonomik büyüme üzerindeki etkisini Küresel İklim Değişikliği Risk Endeksi’ne göre iklim değişikliğinden en fazla etkilenen 10 ülke için analiz etmektir. Panel veri analiz tekniğinin kullanıldığı çalışmada 1990-2016 dönemi yıllık verileri kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlar, söz konusu ülkelerde iklim değişikliğinin ekonomik büyüme ve tarımsal katma değeri negatif yönde etkilediğini ortaya koymaktadır.
