Tattoo In Self-Presentation: A Mixed Methods Study To Explanation Of The Meaning And Motivation Of Tattoo In Self-Presentation

Öz

Individuals grow up as a part of the family environment in which they were born and develop as a result of the reflections of social conditions. All aspects that individuals attribute material or spiritual value and define themselves explain the concept of self. Selfpresentation means that individuals bring certain regulations to their own behaviors during interactions. These regulations are realized consciously or unconsciously in every environment where mutual interaction is provided. In this context, tattoos are accepted as a form of communication that enable individuals to express themselves. In this study,
mixed research method was used. In the quantitative part of the study, 112 participants answered the Ideal and Real Self Concept Scale. In the qualitative part of the study, 18 participants with at least one tattoo, who were selected through purposive sampling, answered the interview questions. One of the findings of this study is that there is a significant difference between the ideal and real selves of individuals. Another finding is related to the reasons and motivations for tattooing. These are explained with the codes Personal Factors, Carrying Meaning, Means of Expression, Perception of Looking Good, Extensions and Redefinition of the Self, Aesthetics, Personal Meanings, Remembering/Unforgetting, No Regret/Satisfaction and Making oneself Happy.

Benlik Sunumunda Dövme: Benlik Sunumunda Dövmenin Anlamının ve Motivasyonunun Açıklanmasına Yönelik Bir Karma Yöntem Araştırması

Öz

Bireyler doğduğu aile ortamının bir parçası olarak büyümekte ve toplumsal koşulların yansımaları sonucunda gelişim göstermektedir. Bireylerin maddi ya da manevi değer yükledikleri ve kendilerini tanımladıkları tüm yönleri benlik kavramını açıklamaktadır. Benlik sunumu, kişilerin etkileşimler sırasında kendi davranışlarına belirli düzenlemeler getirmesi anlamına gelmektedir. Bu düzenlemeler, bilinçli olarak ya da bilinçsiz bir şekilde karşılıklı etkileşimin sağlandığı her ortamda gerçekleşmektedir. Bu bağlamda dövme, bireylerin kendini ifade etmesini sağlayan bir iletişim biçimi olarak kabul edilmektedir. Bu çalışmada karma araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın nicel kısmında 112 katılımcı İdeal ve Gerçek Benlik Kavramı Ölçeğini yanıtlamıştır. Nitel kısmında ise amaçlı örneklemle belirlenen ve en az bir dövmesi olan 18 katılımcı görüşme sorularını yanıtlamıştır. Bu çalışmanın en önemli sonucu kişilerin ideal ve gerçek benlikleri arasında anlamlı bir farklılık olduğunun açıklanmasıdır. Bir diğer bulgu ise kişilerin dövme yaptırma sebeplerinin ve motivasyonlarının neler olduğuna ilişkindir. Bunlar; Kişisel Faktörler, Anlam Taşıma, İfade Etme Aracı, İyi Görünme Algısı, Benliğin Uzantıları ve Yeniden Tanımlanması, Estetik, Kişisel
Anlamlar, Hatırlama/Unutmama, Pişmanlık Duymama/Memnuniyet ve Kendini Mutlu Kılma kodlarıyla açıklanmaktadır.
