Writing Abstract

The abstract of the article is very important for a good "summary" logic which a good example is given below. The intention is that the researcher should be able to get general information about the study by looking only at "Abstract”.

According to our editorial writing rules, "Abstract" should not exceed 180 words. And for a good "summary" it would be helpful to write a summary based on the following 4 headings.

Objective: The aim of this study is to determine SITC product group of European Union countries and Turkey based on sectoral competitiveness.

Material/Method: In this study, a comparative analysis between European Union countries and Turkey have been studied, based on Comtrade database SITC Rev. 3, three-digit product groups and their export values between 1996 and 2005 were used. This data was analysed by Vollrath (1991) Relative Export Advantage Index, considering the Explicit Comparative Advantages method.

Findings: According to the results, while Turkey has a comparative advantage in labour-intensive and capital-intensive goods exports, has a competitive disadvantage in raw materials intensive and research-based goods. EU countries are determined to have a comparative advantage in the research based goods which can be imitable easy and difficult.

Results: Turkey has a comparative advantage in the export of the labour-intensive and capital-intensive goods. These results indicate that the labour is one of the most important production factor for Turkey. In the short run, labour-intensive sectors can be supported by export or trade policies to increase exports and maintain competitive strength. However, the fact that the labour-intensive sector consists of low value-added products will not be rational for long-term export policies. Instead, as in the EU countries, shifting their factors of production to the research based commodities would be beneficial for Turkey and this is going to be promising planning for the future.

By combining the above parts "Abstract" into a single paragraph according to the format of the magazine, we can give the final shape as follows.
